Managing Student Aid in Sweden Abridged Case Solution

Case Solution

New leadership hired in 1977 to mind Sweden's National Student Aid Board faces an almost-desperate situation. So inefficient may be the agency in processing student programs for school bills that some students, low on cash, face the possibilities of requesting public assistance for that poor. CSN chief Billy Olsson, whose background have been in politics, and computer expert Karl-Johan Johansson face the job to find a means for that agency to supply financial help, inside the constraints of student earnings qualifications, in due time. This business production/operational capacity case describes the turnaround strategy-that they call offensive cutback management-effectively implemented by Olsson and Johansson so that, by 1991, the CSN was named among the four best Government Departments in Sweden.
